--AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY--
Early in life, MAX VICTOR ALPER developed a passion for Colonial and Revolutionary War history. Several years ago, he started traveling to Revolutionary War sites and to historical reenactments. He has served as a professor, writer, professional photographer, art gallery curator, and radio commentator.
He received his Ph.D. from New York University, where he later served as a faculty member and administrator. He specialized in eighteenth-century literature, art and history. As Director of Communication, Media and Arts, he was responsible for programs in art, photography, writing and filmmaking.
Alper's fine art photographs have been shown in over 180 exhibitions in the United States and Europe. His work is included in private and public collections, including museums. In New York City, he has exhibited at numerous major galleries. Recently, his photographs were selected for exhibits in Art Basel Miami. In addition to numerous articles, reviews, and museum catalogues, Alper has written two books about American history and culture. In 2026, his two new books — A Nation's Birth and A Nation's Heritage — about the American Revolution and historic sites were published.
He has served on committees of several organizations, such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Emmy Division). Alper also has been an author/editor of Arts Magazine and has contributed academic articles and reviews to national publications.
He has written and narrated a radio series for WGBH-Boston and also appeared on numerous radio and television programs. Alper has participated in the Fellows Program of the American Council on Education and has been awarded a Residency at the prestigious American Academy in Rome.
He has worked at the Foley Gallery and other art galleries in New York City. Max Victor Alper divides his time between New York City and Pennsylvania.
